Make More Friends to Introduce Your Best Friend

Recently in my pastoring of Gifford Park church, I had the urge to encourage brethren to preach the word of God. Pastorally speaking the church has been inward focused. Those who come, come. Those who have stopped coming, don't return. Of course we have to keep trying. But the bigger picture, the bigger mission is that we have also to give a chance for those who have not yet heard the truth of God and His glorious plan.

With the help of several workers, like Brother Tony Ho, Brother Matthew Shek, Deacon Thomas Chan, and Deacon CS Chan, we eventually came up with the best translation in Chinese only after a prayer. It was a joyous occasion for me because the translation was a good one. And thinking back to what Tony said, how our church interpreters are much better than those who have studied for it, we could respond immediately and carry the message forward and into the hearts of the hearers. Truly this is the work of the Holy Spirit!

Anyway, in my message I covered various passages like John 4 how Jesus preached to the Samaritan woman. And Gen 18, how Abraham showed hospitality. These and other passages served as illustrations of how we can preach without fear of not knowing

What I did notice in my preaching is that I had emphasised and re-emphasised the message of Make More Friends to Introduce Your Best Friend. It was rather effective. It was so because Angela who had received the message in her heart actually put it in to action the following few days.

On the street, a person was asking her for direction. She decided to make friends and invited her for dinner. Supposing that I could talk to her friend, she called. Unfortunately I had already arranged to meet with Brother Robert Lai to go visiting that afternoon. So I told her to ask Preacher Michael Chan to make contact with her new found friend.

What was surprising as a result of this encounter was that Preacher Michael Chan managed to get her contact details from her. The likihood of my traveling down to Manchester would be slim. So it is so true that the Spirit of God works in how He organises us in what should be done and by who. I really thank God that Preacher Michael Chan came to mind so that he could take this work on.

Thanks be to God.
